9,000 DVDs of latest English movies seized, one held

Thiruvananthapuram, Jun 21 (UNI) The Air Intelligence Unit of the Customs Department at the International Airport here today seized 9,000 DVD's of latest English movies worth Rs nine lakh and arrested one person in this connection.

The AIU officals said the passenger was identified as Jalal Mohammed Ehiya of Tamil Nadu.

Acting on a tip off, the officials followed Ehiya, who came from Malayasia via Colombo by a Sri Lankan Airways flight, while attempting to clear his goods without payment of duty.

This was the fourth seizure made by the AIU in the last two weeks.

With this, the total contraband seized had gone up to Rs 15 lakh, they added.

The seizure was effected by a team of Intelligence officers led by Deputy Commissioner Sivadasan, Assistant Commissioner P C Mathew and Superintendent N Ajithkumar.
