5 convicted in Rita Mary Case
Tindivanam, Tamil Nadu, Jun 21 (UNI) The Fast Track Court here today convicted five persons while acquitting another in the Rita Mary Case.
Delivering the verdict, Judge R Dayalan found them to be guilty of illicit trafficking, kidnapping and rape and ordered them to undergo different terms in prison.
Anandraj, Easwari, Murugesan, Anandan, Shanti and Kavitha had reportedly forced Rita Mary, a Chennai-based girl, into prositution.
While Murugesan was acquitted, Anandraj, Anandan and Kavitha were sentenced to three years each in prison. Easwari and Shanthi got seven years each.
In 2001, Kavitha and Anandan took Rita Mary to a brothel from the Erode Bus Stand. Later, they sold her to Shanti and Easwari of this town for Rs 12,000.
However, Rita Mary managed to escape from their clutches with the help of four youths.
But Shanti and Easwari lodged police complaint against the youth who were slapped with a prohibition case while Rita Mary was charged with indulging in immoral activities. All of them were taken to the Gingee Prison.
