Bangalore, June 21 (UNI) The city police have arrested a 14-member gang of inter-state dacoits, hailing from Madhya Pradesh, and recovered silver and gold ornaments worth over 8.20 lakh from them.

Outgoing City Police Commissioner Ajay Kumar Singh told reporters here today the Yelahanka new town police had nabbed the gang members when they were planning to commit a dacoity yesterday.

He said the culprits, belonging to a nomadic group called Pathi, were involved in five dacoity and four robbery cases in and around Bangalore. With the arrest of these dacoits, the city police had solved as many as 33 cases.

The police recovered 870 gms of gold jewellery and two kg of silver from them, he added.

Mr Singh said the police were on the look out for six more dacoits belonging to the Pathi Group.

He also announced rewards for the police personnel concerned for arresting the culprits and solving the cases.

Mr Singh, who was stepping down from the post this evening, paving the way for Mr N Achutha Rao to take over, said that during his 12-month tenure, he had strived hard to inculcate the spirit of teamwork among the city police force.

Referring to the terror attack on the Indian Institute of Science in the city in December last, he said it was one of the major challenges he had faced during his tenure here. The investigation team had visited several places across the country and created a database about the activities of subversive forces. It would be helpful in dealing with such cases in future, he added.

Mr Singh will now take over as DGP and Commandant General of Home Guards and Director of Civil Defence and Fire Force.
