UP constitutes commission to study status of minorities

Lucknow, June 20 (UNI) On lines of the Centre's Sacchar Committee, the Uttar Pradesh government today announced constitution a commission to study the status of minorities in government jobs and education sector.

The three-member committee -- one chairman and two members -- would be nominated from the minority community and give their report within next the three months.

UP cabinet meeting today approved the setting up of the new commission, which will work under the minority welfare department.

State chief secretary N C Bajpayee here said the commission will study the status of the minorities in government jobs and their participation in the education sector.

In another decision, the government decided to constitute Settlement Advisory Committee headed by a retired high court judge to hear the grievances of the employees.

The state government also decided to celebrate the centenary celebration of freedom fighter Chandrashekhar Azad. A committee would be set up to chalk out the programme for the purpose.
