UP concerned over fresh polio cases in western UP

Lucknow, June 20 (UNI) Uttar Pradesh family welfare minister Ahmed Hasan today expessed concern over reports of fresh polio cases from western districts of the state.

Mr Hasan said a publicity campaign would be undertaken in the affected districts with active cooperation from the media.

One-day workshops on 'Media contribution in polio eradication programme' would be organised in six districts of western UP by Rotary International, he informed.

''The role of private and voluntary institutions, religions leaders, educational institutions and prominent citizens alongwith media is important for eradication of polio.'' The Minister claimed the disease had almost been eradicated in eastern and central UP. ''However, some cases have come to light in western UP,'' he admitted.

Workshops on eradication of polio would be organised on June 21, 22 and 23 in Badaun, Bareilly and Shahjahanpur respectively.

Besides, state-level workshops would be organised by Rotary in Badaun, Bareilly, Rampur, Shajahanpur, Meerut and Ferozabad. These events would be presided over by the respective DM.

The state govenment will also ensure participation of about 300 print and electronic media correspondents, information officers and CMOs.
