Tata Teleservices to invest 4,000 crore for network expasnion
Kolkata, June 20 (UNI) Tata Teleservices Ltd will invest Rs 4,000 crore on network expansion and setting up of infrastructure in the country in the current fiscal targetting to increase the subscriber base to 18 million from the present 11 million, Chief Executive Officer Darryl Green today said.
''We plan to expand aggressively in 2006-07 to reach 4,000 towns, including all 'C' towns and most of the 'D' towns in the country, '' he told reporters after launching 'Samsung Hero', the new CDMA handset of Samsung Telecommunications India.
The CEO said the company, which had doubled its subscriber base into eight million in 2005-06, was eyeing for achieving the 18-million mark before reaching 20 million subscribers.
With West Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand and Orissa having high growth potential, the company had put priority on the Eastern region for increasing the subscriber base, he said.
Priced at Rs 1,499, the handset had the country's first anti-theft mobile tracker and emergency SOS alert technology.
