Sweeper commits suicide inside state secretariat

Bhubaneswar, Jun 20 (UNI) A sweeper today committed suicide by hanging inside the bathroom of the office of the Regional Imbalance Commission inside the state secretariat here.

Police said sweeper Harihar Nayak, who arrived state secretariat at 0830 hours, was found by another staff hanging inside the bathroom at 0930 hours.

The sweeper was under severe mental strain as he had taken loan for marriage of his daughter. Police had sent the body for post- mortem.

A few days back a woman had allegedly attempted to commit suicide by consuming poison inside Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Debasish Nayak's chamber at the state secretariat The woman, who had some family problem, took the extreme step after she was refused to meet the Chief Minister and Sports Minister to narrate her grievance.

She was, however, overpowered by the staff and later handed over to police, who later arrested her for trying to end her life.
