SEC directs stern action against poll officials

Hyderabad, June 20 (UNI) The Election Commission in Andhra Pradesh today urged the state Government to initiate action against three revenue officials and substaff in Prakasam district allegedly responsible for irregularities in electoral rolls.

Addressing a press conference here, SEC Secretary G N Rao said Special Revenue Secretary had been asked to initiate stringent action against the Revenue Division Officer(RDO), Ongole, Mandal Revenue Officer(MRO), Ongole, MRO, N.G.Padu, MRO, Addanki and subordinate staff, for causing irregularities in the voters list.

He said as many as 72 people have been arrested so far in connection with the auctioning of MPTC seat for Rs 1.80 lakh in Anksapur of Nizamabad District, where the SEC had already stopped polls.

Referring to the opposition TDP's complaint against Union Minister of State for Defence Pallam Raju, State Ministers G Surya Rao and B Satyanarayana for allegedly misusing government guest houses for election propaganda, he said the District Collectors of West Godavari and East Godavari had reported that no violation of the Model Code of Conduct had taken place.

On State Health Minister K Rosaiah's announcement on filling of posts in his department, he said the state government had clarified the announcement was part of the ongoing scheme of the Centre and not a new scheme at all.
