Satish Kakoti passes away

Guwahati, Jun 20 (UNI) Satish Kakoti, former editor of 'The Asom Tribune' and 'Asom Bani' and a noted freedom fighter, died of old age here at his residence last night.

The father figure in Asom journalism, Kakoti was 94. He is survived by his two sons and four daughters.

He received various awards for his contribution to journalism in the state. He was also conferred with the Padmashree Award in 1991.

He was a prolific writer and authored as many as seven books on Asom and North Eastern region. His cremation will take place later today at the local Navagrah crematorium, family sources said.
