Police Commissioner gets Sourav's support

Kolkata, Jun 20 (UNI) Police Commissioner Prasun Mukherjee today got a shot in the arm for his election to the post of CAB president with Sourav Ganguly reportedly throwing his weight behind him.

At a function, protesting the sudden exclusion of Sourav Ganguly from the Indian team, former cricketer Sambaran Banerjee said, '' Snehashis Ganguly has got an sms from Sourav, who is in Essex now, that very soon he will send a letter in stating his support for Mr Mukherjee. '' This polarises opinions in favour of Mr Mukherjee, who already had Snehashis Ganguly present at the function and he had expressed solidarity for the dissident camp, stating that they were working as a team.

Speaking at the function, Mr Mukherjee said, '' The present regime at CAB has a bad blood with the BCCI and hence could not fight for Sourav's inclusion the way they should have. As a resulty, Sourav is out in the most undesired manner. '' '' Ours is a tactical move. We can parley better for Ganguly if we come to power. The current regime of BCCI will stay in power for the next three years and that is bad news for Bengal cricket if the current CAB body continues, '' he said.

'' Not only Sourav, they cant put up the case for any talented player from Bengal and moreover they will affect the district administration too as they are more oiutward lookingh than inside, '' he said.

Reacting on the comment by former Chief Minister Jyoti Basu that he could find it difficult managing both ends, he said, '' I have not heard about it and I can't comment. '' On Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee's reaction, he said, '' What he has said everybody knows. If he has confidence in me I feel proud and will try to perform. '' Others, who spoke on the occasion, were Sambaran Banerjee, Gurbax Singh, Akhtar Ali, Santo Mitra, Subhas Bhowmik, Gopal Bose, Indranil Banerjee, Dibyendu Barua among others.
