NE ITIs' to introduce bamboo-based technology courses
Aizawl, Jun 20 (UNI) The Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) in the north eastern states will introduce Bamboo related training courses in order to utilise bamboo resources of the region.
The concerned officials here today said the courses under the National Vocational Training System (NVTS) would be a joint project of the Union Labour Ministry and the German technical cooperation.
The Labour Ministry, represented by the North Eastern Council (NEC), had signed an MoU with the German firm last month to take up joint ventures in the region's bamboo sectors.
NEC officials also said the region's bamboo sector needed international technical expertise to increase the potential of the sector.
They added that the entire NE region would benefit from the project and it has also worked with select institutes throughout the country to implement widespread dissemination of skills among workers in the informal sector.
In NE the Cane and Bamboo Technology Centre (CBTC) has been chosen as its implementation partner.
The CBTC, established in 2000 as a joint venture of UNDP, UNIDO and department of Science and Technology, has been carrying out NEC's mandate of NE bamboo mission since 2004.
"NE has the country's two-third bamboo resources and the NEC launched the bamboo mission for development of this sector," the officials said.
