Lightning kills three people, burns seven others

Jeypore, June 19 : Three labourers were killed and seven injured, some of them critically, when lightning struck them at Kunterukhal village, about 10 kms from here tonight.

The accident took place when they were taking shelter in a thatched house to protect themselves from rains.

Police said some 20 agricultural labourers from Tentuliguda village had come to work in the fields.

The labourers had almost finished their work and were preparing to return home when heavy rains lashed the area, forcing them to take shelter in a thatched house. The lightning struck the thatched house which was completely gutted killing three of them on the spot.

Seven others sustained serious burn injuries and were shifted to the Jeypore Hospital in a critical condition, the police said.
