Legendary musician urges people to boycott KFC
Kolkata, June 20 (UNI) Legendary musician Pundit Ravi Shankar has urged to stop the abuse against chicken and asked his fans to boycott a leading food chain till it did so.
Pundit Ravi Shankar in a letter sent on behalf of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) to David Novak-CEO of KFC's parent company, said, ''the routine and sadistic abuse of chicken by KFC suppliers, showing that conscious birds were maimed by killing machines and scalded to death in defeathering tanks, they had their heads torn-off and their faces spray-painted for fun, had to stop''.
A PETA release said, Mr Shankar in his note added, ''You have the ability and the opportunity to decrease the shocking abuse of these interesting, sensitive individuals...Until you do so, I will be calling on all compassionate people across the world to boycot KFC''.
He joins a growing list of celebrities urging KFC to eliminate the worst abuses its chicken suffer, including his daughter Anoushka Shankar, besides Pamela Anderson, Sir Paul McCartney and His Holiness the Dalai Lama.
