Land reforms commission constituted in Bihar

Patna, Jun 20 (UNI) The Bihar government has constituted the Land Reforms Commission, headed by retired IAS officer D Bandhopadhya to keep land-related litigations and violence under check and ensure fair distribution of land among underprivileged section of the society.

Official sources said Bihar Land Reforms department Commissioner would be Secretary, while member of revenue board had been nominated as member of the Commission, which had been asked to submit its interim report within six months. The final reoprt should be handed over to the government within one year.

Mr Bandopadhya, a 1955 batch IAS officer of West Bengal cadre, was a key figure in land reforms missions in Bengal which was conducted under ''Operation Barga''.

He is presently Chairman of Land Reforms Committee of the Planning Commission. During his long administrative career, Mr Bandopadhya also served as Executive Director of Asian Development Bank(ADB) in Manila.
