Govt. to go in appeal in SC on HC order for brain mapping

Thiruvananthapuram, June 20 (UNI) Kerala Home Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan told the State Assembly today that the state governmnet proposed to go in appeal in the Supreme Court against the Kerala High Court order for subjecting the victim of the ragging case at the School of Medical Education (SME) of the M G University for polygraph and brain mapping tests.

Replying to a submission by Mr V N Vasavan, he said the government was examining the High Court order and consulting legal experts in this regard.

The case related to the alleged rape of a first year B Sc nursing student of the SME by some senior students under the guise of ragging. The High Court order was in response to an appeal preferred by the first accused in the case.

Replying to another submission by Mr Saju Paul (CPI-M), Industries Minister Elamaram Karim said all possible steps would be taken for the reopening of the Travancore Rayons, Perumbavoor.

A Coimbatore-based promoter had come forward for the take over of the company and negotiations were on with the banks on the liability of the company, he said.

Minister for Animal Husbandry and Dairy Development C Divakaran told Mr Mangode Radhakrishnan (CPI) that a comprehensive welfare fund would be launched for the 16 lakh dairy farmers in the state.
