Germany lead Ecuador 2-0 at halftime
BERLIN, June 20 (Reuters) Two goals from striker Miroslav Klose gave Germany a 2-0 halftime lead over Ecuador today in World Cup Group A.
Klose scored in the fourth minute and added a second in the 44th minute to take his tally for the tourament to four, making him the leading scorer so far.
German midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger controlled a lob into the box from defender Per Mertesacker, cutting it back to an unmarked Klose who drilled a low drive into the right corner of Ecuador keeper Cristian Mora's goal in the fourth minute.
Klose beat Mora to a Michael Ballack pass and rolled the ball into the empty net just before halftime.
Both teams have qualified for the last 16. Germany need a win to claim top spot in the group.
