Engineer arrested for taking bribe

Bellary, June 20 (UNI) The Lok Ayukta police today arrested an electrical engineer while accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000 from an electrical contractor for issuing a clearance certificate, here.

Police said Shanmukhappa of Davangere, the electrical contractor for a building in Kottur town in this district, had approached engineer K C Reddy of Bellary to issue a clearance certificate. But, Mr Reddy had demanded a sum of Rs 10,000 for clearing the work.

Following this, Shanmukhappa lodged a complaint with the police wing of the Karnataka Lok Ayukta here against Mr Reddy. Police laid a trap for the engineer and caught him red handed in his office.

The arrested engineer was later presented before a court.
