Elocution competition on 'Thirukkural'

Chennai, Jun 20 (UNI) "Shriram Ilakkiya Kazhagam", the literary wing of the Rs 10,000 crore Shriram group will organize 'Thirukkural Vizha 2006'-the annual state level elocution competition for School and College students in Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry.

The competition was instituted in 1988 with the objective of increasing the awareness about the teachings of Thirukkural, the couplets of saint poet Thiruvalluvar among the student community.

The preliminary round would be held on July 22 at the Dr M G R Janaki Arts and Science College for Women, here, a company release said.

The competition would also be held at Vellore on July 23, Coimbatore on July 29, Salem on July 30, Tirunelveli on August five, Madurai Madurai on August six, Tiruchirapalli on August 12 and Pondicherry on August 13, 2006.

The contestants would be divided into four groups - Juniors (Classes: 6-8), Seniors (Classes: 9,10), Super Seniors (Classes: 11, 12) and College (students of Diploma/UG/PG courses). Each institution can nominate in two entries from each class under each category.

The Winners in each group would be given a cash award of Rs 5000, Rs 3000 and Rs 2000 as the first, second and third prize, respectively.

All the participants will receive certificate of participation and the semi finalists will be awarded a book, it said.
