Dacoits kill one person, loot two houses in Belgaum District

Belgaum, June 20 (UNI) An eight-member armed dacoity gang hacked one person to death and injured three others before looting two houses in Ghataprabha police station limits in this district today.

Superintendent of Police Hemanth Kumar said that the gang members, in the age group of 25-30 years, conversing in Hindi, Kannada and Marathi, broke open the door of a house and asked the family to part away with the ornaments and cash. When the family head, Lagamanna Shirahatti, protested, they dragged him out of his house and hacked him to death. Other three inmates who came to his rescue were also attacked.

Later the gang struck at a Farm house and threatened the inmates and robbed gold ornaments and cash.

The gang escaped with booty which included Gold jewelry and cash worth Rs 1.65 lakh from two houses.

The injured were admitted to Ghataprabha Hospital. Top Police officials visited the spot and dog squad was pressed into service.
