Aizawl, Jun 20 (UNI) Some unknown miscreants set ablaze a vehicle belonging Customs Suprintendent based in the Zokhawthar land customs at Indo-Burma border here.

Customs sources from Champhai district said the importers and exporters at the Zokhawthar trading post had been upset with the Customs Superintendent Alagiri Swamy, who they allege taxed everything that came into the state from Myanmar, including vegetables and other agricultural products.

Reports said engaging the services of the Assam Rifles based in this border village for security, Swamy continued taking Customs duties on everything.

The district administration in Champhai had advised the Customs Officer to operate from Champhai town since it could not assure him full protection against any untoward incident.

Meanwhile, goods have started flowing into the state from Myanmar again after the state government gave the exporter-importers more time before the new Taxation checkgate at Melbuk became operational.
