Lucknow, June 20 (UNI) Uttar Pradesh Congress today slammed Samajwadi Party supremo and chief minister Mulayam Singh Yadav for his reported comments on AICC president Sonia Gandhi, where he termed the latter's allegations as ''a lie.'' The party said such comments from the CM for a person of Ms Gandhi's stature were uncalled for and in bad taste.

Addressing a public meeting yesterday, the Chief Minister had denied the Congress chief's allegations that UP government was being partial to her Lok Sabha constituency.

His remarks came days after she lambasted the state government for deliberately not providing adequate power supply to Rae Bareli.

Ms Gandhi had said whatever power was being supplied was also withdrawn after her re-election from Rae Bareli in the May bypoll.

Reacting to Mr yadav's statement, UPCC said he should desist from speaking the language of SP general secretary Amar Singh.

''This only shows the frustration of Mr Yadav, who is stung by the recent CD expose and the Congress' rising popularity graph,'' a party spokesperson said here.

He claimed Centre was providing UP with power exceeding the requirement. ''But, almost half of the power supplied is either misused by ruling party leaders or lost during transmission,'' he added.
