Barnala sworn-in as TN governor for another five years
Chennai, June 20 (UNI) Tamil Nadu Governor Surjit Singh Barnala was today sworn-in as Governor for a fresh period of five years.
At a brief and simple function at the Durbar Hall of Raj Bhavan, Madras High Court Chief Justice Ajit Prakash Shah administered the oath of office after Chief Secretary L K Tripathy read out the warrant of appointment.
Chief Minister M Karunanidhi, his cabinet colleagues, Judges of Madras High Court, PMK President G K Mani, Congress leaders D Yasodha, Gnanadesikan, MP, and Mrs Surjit Kaur, wife of Mr Barnala, were among others present on the occasion.
After the swearing-in ceremony, Mr Karunanidhi introduced his cabinet colleagues, including Finance Minister K Anbazhagan and Power Minister Arcot N Veerasamy, to the Governor, who was greeted by Judges and other leaders.
Mr Barnala, who assumed office as Governor of Tamil Nadu in November 2004, after the resignation of P S Ramamohan Rao, secured a fresh extension of five years.
Earlier, Mr Barnala had a stint as Governor of Tamil Nadu in 1990.
