Barat returned without bride over gotra issue

Karnal, June 20 (UNI) A groom had to beat retreat without the bride on the day of marriage after it was discovered that both of them had the same 'gotra'.

The groom and his 'barat' were returned emptyhanded by the bride's relatives in Bhadson village in the district on june 18 when they realised that the groom's family had played a fraud on them by not revealing their actual gotra, reports received here said. The marriage party had come from Nabiyana village in Kurukshetra district to marry the daughter of Puran Chand of Bhadson village.

The baratis had feasted on the special foods served to them when it came to light that the gotras of the bride and groom were the same. The 'pheras' were-immediately held up.

The relatives of the bride made the baratis captive and the village panchayat was called. After long deliberations, the groom's family was made to pay Rs 15,000 incurred on the food and they were sent back without the bride.

Later, the bride's family selected another suitable boy for her and their marriage was solemnised the same day.
