Bangla Prez returns home after bypass surgery in Singapore

Dhaka, June 20 (UNI) Bangladesh President Iajuddin Ahmed, who underwent bypass surgery in Singapore on May 26, returned home today.

A VVIP flight of the national flag carrier, Biman Bangladesh Airlines, carrying the President from Singapore landed at Zia International Airport at about 1210 hrs (local time).

The President walked down the stairs of the aircraft and exchanged greetings with Speaker Jamiruddin Sircar at the VVIP tarmac.

The President was taken to the presentation line, where ministers, chiefs of the three services and high civil and military officials greeted him.

After the brief airport ceremony, the President was taken to the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) here for medical check-up as per the advice of the doctors of the Mount Elizabeth Hospital.

The 75-year old Prof Iajuddin was flown to Singapore on May 24 for treatment of his cardiac complications. He was admitted to Dhaka CMH on May 23 after he complained of chest pain.

A team of expert physicians, led by cardiologist Dr MC Tong, successfully operated upon the President at Mount Elizabeth Hospital in Singapore on May 26.

He convalesced after close observation and treatment by the physicians, although he had developed some post-operative complications.
