Youth Congress workers, policemen injured in Assembly march
Thiruvananthapuram, June 19 (UNI) Thirty-eight people, including three policemen, were injured when a Youth Congress march to the State Assembly turned violent today.
The injured, including Youth Congress state president K P Anilkumar, have been admitted to the Medical College Hospital here.
The incident occurred when the police tried to block the march, taken out demanding the resignation of Public Works Minister P J Joseph for his alleged involvement in the 'Maithri Housing Project' scam. The marchers then allegedly pelted stones at the police.
As a lathi charge found ineffective to disperse the protesters, police used water cannons and burst tear gas shells.
Earlier, KPCC president Ramesh Chennithala inaugurated the march.
