Youth Cong workers, cops injured in clash

Thiruvananthapuram, June 19 (UNI) Thirty-eight people, including three policemen, were injured when a Youth Congress march to the State Assembly turned violent today.

The injured, including Youth Congress State President K P Anilkumar, have been admitted to the Medical College Hospital here.

The incident occurred when the police tried to block the march, taken out demanding the resignation of Public Works Minister P J Joseph for his alleged involvement in the 'Maithri Housing Project' scam.

The marchers then allegedly pelted stones at the police.

As a lathicharge was found ineffective to disperse the protesters, police used water cannons and burst tear gas shells.

Earlier, KPCC President Ramesh Chennithala inaugurated the march.
