Women and sub-junior boxers reap rich harvest in Vietnam
New Delhi, June 19 (UNI) Indian women's and sub-junior teams returned with a collective haul of eight Gold, four Silver and as many Bronze medals in the recently concluded Women's Open and Asian Cadet Boxing Championship in Hanoi, Vietnam.
The nine-member women's team--with five Gold, two Silver and two Bronze-- finished as the top team of the tournament but the sub-juniors had to be content with the second spot, according to a Indian Amateur Boxing Federation release here today.
Haryana's Preeti Beniwal, Aswathy Prabha and Aswathy Mol of Kerala and Manipuris S Ibemcha Devi and MC Merykom won the Gold in the Women's Open.
In the Asian Cadet Championship, Sunil (Haryana), Roshan S Kongknam (Services) and Delhiite Akshay kumar were the Gold medallists in the sub-junior category.
The siver medallists were Jahanabi Gogoi and Chhoto in the Women's Open and Bhoopinder and Balwinder Peniwal in the Asian Cadet's.
Pranamika Borah and Kavita and Nanao S Thokcham and Manjeet Singh won the bronze in the Women's Open and Asian Cadet's respectively.
