Uma flays VCOAS

Bhopal, June 19 (UNI) Bharatiya Janshakti president and former union minister Uma Bharti today demanded action against Vice Chief Of Army Staff Lt-Gen S Pattabhiraman for his controversial statement regarding women officers in the wake of Army Supply Corps Lt Sushmita Chakravorty's alleged suicide on June 15 in Udhampur.

''The officer's statement cannot be described as proper in any context. However, Defence Minister Pranab Mukherjee has clarified the situation,'' the firebrand leader said while reponding to media queries here today.

Lt Gen Pattabhiraman's observation that the army could ''do without women'' had drawn flak from several quarters.
