Two LeT militants, 1 constable remanded for 14-day in RDX blast case

Ahmedabad, June 19 (UNI) A local court today remanded in 14-day police custody three accused, including two Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) militants for their alleged involvements in the RDX bomb blast at Kalupur Railway Station here on February 19 this year, in which 14 people were injured.

Metropolitan Magistrate B L Patel in his judgement remanded two LeT militants, Mohammed Aamir Shakeel Ahmed Sheikh alias Abdul Kabir alias Aamir Shakeel and Saiyad Afiq Saiyad Jafrudin (both residents of Aurangabad town in Maharashtra), 14-days police custody for planting a suitcase laden with RDX bomb in S-1 Coach of Karnavati Express at a local railway station on February 19, 2006.

The Judge Patel also gave 14-day remand to Gujarat Railway Police constable Kamlesh Somaji Bhagora as the court found it wrong that he did not intimate his superior about the bomb in the suitcase when a sweeper of the Western Railway brought it to his notice. Instead of informing his superiors, Kamlesh, however, decided that if no claimant comes he will keep the suitcase.

Police in its report pleaded that if Kamlesh had passed on the information about the suitcase to his superiors, the incident could have been averted.

The LeT duo was arrested along with 17 others by Maharashtra's Mumbai Anti-Terrorists Squad in an operation carried out at Aurangabad town on May 9. During interrogation of the arrested 19 LeT aides, Aamir Shakeel and Saiyad Afiq disclosed their hand in RDX bomb blasts at Ahmedabad. Thus they were brought here yesterday on transferred warrant and later arrested by the sleuths of Gujarat Anti-Terrorists Squad.

The Gujarat ATS had sought 16 days police remand for the trio.
