Two killed by wild elephant in Asom

Diphu, Jun 19 : Two persons were killed and as many injured by a wild elephant at different localities under Kheronai Police station of Hamreng sub-division in Karbi Anglong district yesterday.

Official sources today said the elephant ran amock and attacked the villagers at Doyangmukh village killing Upendra Biswas (65) and Gyanmaya Devi on the spot while seriously injuring another two.

The injured had been rushed to the nearby Nowgong Hospital, it said.

The incident took place when the pachyderm entered the village around 4.30 A M and attacked Upendra when he went out to the fields.

Later, the animal entered the village and killed Gyanmaya Devi. It also destroyed two houses in the village .
