Two-day technical prog at SVVU begins
Tirupati, Jun 19 (UNI) A two-day state-level technical programme for the year 2006-07 organised by Sri Venkateswara Veterinary University (SVVU) began here today.
Speaking on the occasion, Andhra Pradesh Animal Husbandry Director Dr L Mohan said the livestock sector was playing a major role in the state. The state earned a revenue of Rs 13,000 crore per annum from milk, meat and egg production, he said.
Stating that livestock was the mainstay of income for about 30 lakh families in the state, he said AP stood first in the country for broiler production, second in meat and fourth the production of milk.
The dean of Veterinary Science Dr M D Hateez exhorted the scientists to engage themelves in research works in addition to state-planned project on 'epidemiology diagnosis and control of emerging diseases of animals and poultry, including diseases transmitted to humans.' Agencies like ISAR, DVT, CSRI and ICRISAT were funded to take up research works on different fields, he added.
An agreement was signed with US-based Veterinary University scientist Dr R Ghanta for researches in various fields.
