Snow in Kinnuar, cloudy elsewhere in HP

Shimla, June 19 (UNI) Temperatures continued to remain below normal in Kinnuar district of Himachal Pradesh today with high altitude areas experiencing intermittent snowfall, while rains lashed the lower parts of the district even as it remained cloudy in the rest of the state.

Kinner Kailesh, Khimuphul Pass and other mountain peaks in Kinnaur district were receiving intermittent snowfall since last night, while the lower areas received light showers, plummeting minimum and maximum temperatures in the district.

Rekong Peo, the district headquarter of the district, was receiving intermittent rainfall and official sources said vehicular traffic was plying normally on the 320 km long Hindustan-Tibet road and other link roads.

Water discharge in Satluj and other rivers of the state has come down due to a fall in the day and night temperatures in the district, reducing the melting of glaciers in the high altitude areas of the tribal districts.

Snow clouds were hovering over Lahaul-Spiti, Kullu and Chamba districts of the state and weather office said the districts were likely to experience snow by this evening after one-day respite yesterday.

Clouds also hovered over lower districts of the state today but cleared as the day progressed.

Shimla and its adjoining areas also received light showers in early hours.

Shimla recorded a night temperature of 15.1 degrees after a sunny and bright day yesterday. Yesterday, the state capital had recorded a low of 13 degrees yesterday.

Bhuntar in Kullu district and Kalpa in Kinnuar district recorded 0.4 mm and 1.4 mm rains till 0830 hrs today, the met office said.
