Six improved varieties of Bajra in Rajasthan

Jaipur, June 19 (UNI) The Rajasthan Agriculture University in Bikaner has recommended six improved varieties of Bajra crop, which will grow in a shorter time period.

Bajra, the chief kharif crop of the state is sown in more than 30 per cent of Rajasthan. The total production of this chief crop in dry areas of Barmer, Jodhpur, Churu, Nagaur and Jalore is about 22.61 lakh tonnes.

The improved varieties Bajra RHB-121 variety will ripe in a time period of 75-78 days and has a medium tolerance power to face drought. Similarly the RHB-90 hybrid variety ripens in 72-78 days.

Likewise the RHB-30 is a hybrid variety of medium height which ripens quickly in period of 73-78 days.

The RHB-58 hybrid variety ripens in 80 to 85 days. The Raj-171 variety is grown for dry fodder and grain in areas having normal and scanty rainfall and ripens in a period of 80 to 85 days.

Another variety is Raj Bajra chari-2, which ripens in 60 to 70 days while its grains develop in 90 to 100 days and is suitable for saline areas.
