Sania rises to 38th in WTA rankings, Paes-Bhupathi static

New Delhi, June 19 (UNI) Despite her shocking second round defeat in the DFS Classic at the hands of an American qualifier, Sania Mirza moved up three places to 38 in the latest WTA rankings issued today.

The Hyderabadi teenager, who lost to American Greenhorn Meilen Tu in the 200,000 dollar WTA Tier-III event in Birmingham, has 537.50 ranking points in her kitty.

Sania is hoping to shake off her recent poor form in the Wimbledon where she will play on grass, which is her favourite surface.

Among the other Indians in the list, the US-based Shikha Uberoi (168) remained static at the 165th spot followed by Ankita Bhambri (49.25) at 363rd, falling 14 places.

Meanwhile, in the men's doubles rankings, Leander Paes (15th) and Mahesh Bhupathi (24th) remain static.

In men's singles, Davis Cupper Rohan Bopanna climbed 15 rungs to 252 even after going down against world number one Roger Federer in the Gery Webber at Halle, Germany.

Prakash Amritraj is the second Indian in the list, at 285 while Harsh Mankad slid 28 rungs to finish 394.
