Reports about NCM focussing only on certain states wrong: Govt

New Delhi, June 19 (UNI) The Government today denied that the National Commission of Minorities (NCM) was focussing only on certain states while monitoring the implementation of constitutional safeguards for religious minorities.

The reports in this regard are factually incorrect, the Minority Affairs Ministry said here.

''The NCM was a statutory body that, in the discharge of its functions under the Act of 1992, takes cognisance of developments affecting the notified religious minorities and of complaints and grievances emanating from them. The work pertains to all parts of the country within the purview of the 1992 Act,'' it said.

The Ministry said that like other statutory bodies, the Commission functions within its mandate and attempts to ensure that the constitutional and legal safeguards for the minorities, which are mandatory, are honoured in their totality.
