Rains bring down temperatures in Rajasthan

Jaipur, June 19 (UNI) A high speed dust-storm accompanied with rains cooled down the temperatures in the state capital today.

Dust enveloped the atmosphere from the morning. In the afternoon, the dust storm gained speed, reducing the visibilty considerably.

Heavy rains followed which lasted for about 15 minutes, and brought down the temperatures considerably. The electricity played truant during the period.

Meanwhile, the dust-storms accompanied with rains damaged many canals of the Indira Gandhi Canal Project in Ganganagar last night.

Trees were uprooted and roofs of many houses were blown away by the high speed wind.

Anil Kailash, executive engineer in Gharsana Irrigation department said trees which fell into the canal due to the dust-storms, damaged several small canals in the Indira Gandhi Canal project. The repair work of these canals have been started.

Life in Bikaner was also disrupted following a dust-storm.

According to the weather office, 37.4 mm rains were recorded in Ganganagar today. Jaisalmer recorded 8.4 mm, Shahpura 14 mm, Bari in Dholpur district recorded 8 mm and Sardarshahr 12 mm. Other areas in Rajasthan recorded traces of rain.

The weather office has predicted continuation of dust storms, lightning and thunderstorms accompanied with rains over the next 24 hours.
