Lucknow, June 19 (UNI) Lucknow Bench of Allahabad High Court today reserved judgement on a PIL seeking ban on the increasing use of red/blue beacons, black screens and sirens on vehicles.

A vacation bench comprising Justices D P Singh and J M Paliwal fixed June 23 for passing the order.

Earlier, UP home secretary R N Srivastava, Additional Transport Commissioner Rameshwar Dayal, ADG (law and order) Padman Singh, IG Traffic Brijlal and Police Superintendent Traffic Onkar Singh appeared before the court.

The officials informed the bench that although such vehicles were being 'challaned', they could not be banned from plying.

They claimed criminals were taking advantage of moving around in such vehicles with impunity.

On Friday, a bench comprising Justices Devi Prasad Singh and S N Shukla had summoned Uttar Pradesh Principal Secretary Home, IG Traffic and Secretary Transport to appear before the court on June 19.

They had been asked to inform the court under what provisions such gadgets were being misused.

The order was passed on a PIL filed by Durgesh Awasthi, who alleged red/blue beacons, black screens and sirens were being used illegally.
