Nine ministers inducted in Meghalaya cabinet

Shillong, June 19 (UNI) Nine ministers were today inducted in the J D Rymbai-led Meghalaya cabinet.

Former Home Minister Robert G Lyngdoh, E D Marak, Brening A Sangma, Prestone Tynsong Sangma, Shidlang Pale, Ms Irin Nongrum, Sengran Sangma, Manirul Islam Sarkar from Congress and Paul Lyngdoh of Khun National Hyniewtrep Awakening Movement were sworn-in earlier in the day.

Officiating Governor Dr S S Sidhu administered the oath of office.

Among those present were Union Tribal Affairs and DONER Minister P R Kyndiah, former Chief Minister D D Lapang and Speaker Martin M Danggo.

Hill State People's Democratic Party supremo Hoping Stone Lyngdoh was conspicuous by his absence. HSPDP has two MLAs and is also an ally of the ruling Congress-led Meghalaya Democratic Alliance government.

Earlier on June 16, Mr Rymbai took over as the Chief Minister after Mr Lapang resigned.

Two other MLAs, Dr Don Kupar Roy of the United Democratic Party and Martle Nukhim of the Meghalaya Democratic Party, were sworn-in with Mr Rymbai.

Later, Dr Roy was elected as Deputy Chief Minister.

Talking to newspersons, Mr Rymbai said the portfolios would be notified tomorrow.

Mr Lapang would be chairman of Meghalaya Economic Development Council.
