News channels showing vulgar scenes, must be regulated:Sharad Yadav

New Delhi, Jun 19 (UNI) Janata Dal (United) President Sharad Yadav today criticised TV news channels for showing vulgar scenes and film personalities, instead of news and demanded setting up of a mechanism to regulate their content.

''There is all round decline in the content of these ''so called'' national news channels. They spend crores on covering IFA Awards and the Rakhi Swant- Mika kissing episode. They have crossed all limits of dignity for increasing their TRP,'' Mr Yadav told reporters here.

Asserting that the news channels should have at least 60 percent news content, he demanded that the government should set up a Commission on the lines of Press Council of India to regulate their content.

He said that in the next Parliament session he would submit a proposal for discussion and debate on this matter.

Pointing out the largescale coverage of drug addiction among Page 3 pesonalities, Mr Yadav said that all Page 3 personalities must be probed to find out their heroin-coccine addiction.

''Why's Rahul Mahajan being probed, all these persons should also be brought to justice,'' he said.

However, he clarified that he was not favouring Rahul but all are equal before the law and he should also face justice.

About the recent controversy between Health Minister A Ramadoss and AIIMS Director P Venugopal, the Janata Dal leader said that the Director had gone against the rules and supported the anti-quota agitation from the AIIMS campus.

''This is not the question of autonomy of AIIMS and dictatorship of the Health Minister. Dr Venugopal had gone against rules and did favouritism and pre-judiced behaviour. He allowed AIIMS campus being used for anti-quota stir and involved the faculty publicity in it.

He even forced the Medical Superintendent to give a statement on the issue. So, we have no sympathy with Dr Venugopal on this issue, though he is a very good doctor,'' Shambhu Srivastawa, General Secretary and spokesman of the party said.
