Monsoon to set in MP by June 24

Bhopal, Jun 19 (UNI) As monsoon clouds gathered over the Bay of Bengal, the South West monsoon is expected to set in Madhya Pradesh by June 24.

Meteorological department director D P Dubey said upper air cycer built over Gujarat was weakening. However, its effect and humidity arriving from there could bring light rainfall in eastern and southern parts.

Except the Gwalior Chambal division, the remaining part of the state was expected to receive showers accompanied with lightning.

Meanwhile, the state capital got a respite from scorching summer today when rainfall lashed the city, which witnessed a cloudy day.

The maximum temperature fell by two degree Celsius to 37.8 degrees C.

Some parts of the state continued to reel under blistering heat with temperature of above 40 degrees being recorded.

The temperature in Gwalior and Rewa was recorded at 41.7 degrees C, while it was 40.8 degrees C at Satna, 39.1 degrees C at Jabalpur and 38 degrees C at Indore.

Khajuraho and Shepour recorded a maximum of 43 degrees C.

Rainfall occurred at some parts in Jabalpur, Sagar and Indore divisions overnight, while the weather at other places remained dry.

The department predicted rainfall at some places in Rewa, Sagar, Jabalpur, Indore, Bhopal and Hoshangabad divisions in the next 24 hours.

A cloudy weather is expected in the state capital tomorrow with rainfall at some places.

Normally, monsoon sets in Madhya Pradesh on June 13. However, the statistics for the past 10 years reveal that monsoon had a delayed arrival except in 2-3 years. Last year, monsoon arrived on June 24.
