Meerut: SDM, policemen wounded in brick-batting

Lucknow, June 19 (UNI) At least 12 people, including a sub-divisional magistrate (SDM) and policemen, were wounded when protesting sanitary staff resorted to violence in Meerut district of Uttar Pradesh today.

According to police, they were agitating for the last few days to press for their demands.

This afternoon, a mob comprising the sanitary staff members blocked the road in front of the municipal office.

When asked to disperse, some agitated members resorted to brick batting, in which about 12 people were wounded. Later, police used mild force to bring the situation under control.

A few persons had been taken into custody, while the situation was said to be tense, but under control.
