Leyland gets ISO-TS 16949-2002 certification

Chennai, June 19 (UNI) Ashok Leyland, the flagship company of the Hinduja group, added yet another feather in its cap, when it received the ISO-TS 16949-2002 Corporate certification here today.

The certificate was presented to Ashok Leyland Managing Director R Seshasayee by Indian Register Quality Systems (IRQS) MD K Madhok.

Ashok Leyland was the first Indian auto company to receive this prestigious certification, which was presented to each of its six manufacturing units at Hosur I, Hosur II, Bhandara, Alwar and Cab Panel Press Shop (CPPS).

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Seshasayee said it was an important milestone for the company as it demonstrated adherence to international best pactices in manufacturing and allied processes.

'This certification, a reward for the company and its employees' commitment to quality, will motivate us to achieve more such milestones in future', he added.

ISO-TS 16949 was the latest international quality standard, specific to the auto industry, and a significant improvement on ISO 9001-2000, lauded as one of the most comprehensive standards to have been evolved worldwide.

Presenting the award and commenting on the significance of TS 16949, Mr Madhok said it was customer centric, had direct linkage to the business goal, involved a process-centric auditing methodology and performance-oriented standards that drove an organisation towards business excellence.

'After a three-month long audit of the six manufacturing units and the marketing, product development, project planning and corporate quality divisions of the company, IRQS certified Ashok Leyland as adhering to the stricter and more stringent norms of TS 16949', he added.
