Jeev signs off at tied 59th, Oglivy wins maiden US Open title

Mamaroneck, New York, June 19 (UNI) On a course where even the winner failed to break the par, Jeev Milkha Singh improved a stroke to finish tied 59th in the US Open at the Winged Foot Golf Club here.

The Indian shot a final round of six-over 76 to sign off third from bottom. Jeev, who was the only Indian in fray after Jyoti Randhawa failed to make the cut, finished with a four-day total of 302 in the tournament won by Australian Geoff Oglivy with a five-over 285 score.

The Aussie won his maiden US PGA tour title after remaining a stroke clear of Americans Phil Mickelsen, Colin Montgomerie and Jim Furyk.

Jeev, who leads the Asian Tour UBS Order of Merit, managed just two birdies in each nine. The Volvo China Open winner was not able to shake off yesterday's disastrous round of 77 and ended up dropping eight shots throughout to remain static.

Two-over at the halfway mark, Jeev found the going even harder in his backward journey as he bogeyed five holes to end his back-nine at four-over.
