India talks to Russia for naval cooperation

Moscow, Jun 19: India Chief of Naval Staff, Admiral Arun Prakash today held talks with his Russian counterparts on the development of wide-ranging naval cooperation between the two countries.

Admiral Prakash is currently on a week-long visit to Russia to review the ongoing bilateral cooperation in naval sphere, RIA Novosti news agency reported quoting a Russian Navy spokesman.

His visit assumes significance in the wake of the recent visits by the Indian Air Chief Marshal S P Tyagi and Defence Secretary Shekhar Dutt, who discussed the progress of bilateral defence cooperation in relation to different ongoing projects, including the scheduled delivery of heavy aircraft carrier Admiral Gorshkov and carrier-borne MiG-29 fighter jets.

The visits by a series of high-level Indian defence officials, are also considered important in view of the next session of the Indo-Russian Inter-Governmental Commission on Military-Technical Cooperation, expected to be held in January next in New Delhi.
