Heroin worth Rs 30 lakh seized in Meghalaya

Shillong, Jun 19 (UNI) The Border Security Force have seized heroin worth Rs 30 lakh along with Indian currency of Rs 526 and arrested three persons in this connection.

The arrested have been identified as Dilbag Singh of Gurdaspur, Punjab, Satish Singh of Motihari, Bihar, and Mangal Hajong of Zik Zak in West Garo Hills district, Meghalaya.

According to BSF Additional Deputy Inspector General M N Sajjan, the seizure took place on June 17 when BSF personnel from Tura station headquarters and 56 battalion based in Dalu waylaid the drug peddlers at Dimapara area in West Garo Hills district of Meghalaya near Bangladesh.

The heroin was packed in a high quality transparent polythene marked as ''Made in Thailand,''the BSF official said.

Mr Sajjan said as per the statement made by Dilbag Singh and Satish Singh the consignment belonged to one Arjun Pandey of South Garo Hills and the same was to be taken to Tura, the district headquarters of West Garo Hills.

Meanwhile, the three have been handed over to the state police and booked under the NPDS Act.
