Godhra collector orders inquiry into irregularities in check dams
Godhra, June 19 (UNI) District Collector Dinesh Brahmbhatt today ordered a blanket ban on all check dams under construction and ordered 'stop payment' of those completed, following complaints of large scale irregularities.
He has also ordered a thorough inquiry and cross-verification by independent agencies into all the check dams constructed in the Panchmahals district and called for submitting a detailed report within a week.
A large number of Non-Government Organisations (NGOs) undertake construction of check dams to store rain water under various government schemes of Irrigation, Panchayat, Rural Development and Forest Departments, besides Kadana and Panam Irrigation Projects.
However, Minister of State for Home Amit Shah, who is also in-charge minister of the district, received several complaints of irregularities in the construction, a release issued here today said.
It was at the minister's behest that the collector has ordered inquiry into the technical and financial aspects of construction, like materials used, length, width and height of the check dams.
