Four new meet records on day one of sub-jr aquatic

Bangalore, June 19 (UNI) Four meet records were shattered and Arhata Magavi of host Karnataka struck two golds on the inaugural day of the 23rd Sub-Junior Aquatic National Championship here.

Arhata bagged gold in 200 M freestyle in Group III, finishing with a timing of two minutes 24.80 sec. The 12-year-old created a new record by finishing 50 M butterfly in 32.91 sec, obliterating Tagari Baidya of West Bengal's record of 33.07 sec.

Maharashtra's Saurabh Sangvekar erased his Statemate Veerdhaval Khade's record by finishing 200 M (Group III) with a timing of 2:17.44 sec. The old record timing was 2:18.30 sec.

Rujuta Bhat of Maharashtra won the gold by creating a new meet record in the girls 50 M (Group IV) Butterfly by finishing in 34.96 sec. The old record of 36.02 sec stood in the name of Arhata.

Swaroop Mondal of West Bengal created the fourth record of the day in Group III Boys 100 M Breaststroke when he finished the event in 1:18.88 sec. He bettered the record of 1:21.32 sec set by his Statemate Bidya Pati Rajbar.
