Employees stir completes two months

Imphal, June 19 (UNI) The indefinite strike launched by the state government employees entered its 61st day today.

The Joint Administrative Council (JAC) of All Manipur Government Employees' Organisation and All Manipur Trade Union Congress had launched an indefinite cease work strike demanding pay hike and rectification of pay anomalies.

The JAC has also demanded that the retirement age be fixed at 60 rather than 58. It also demanded regularisation of adhoc employees.

The Secretariat employees have also threatened to join the stir.

Talks between the government and JAC have failed several times with both sides sticking to their decision.

The JAC said it will continue the stir until the demands were fulfilled while Manipur Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh had informed that the employees demanded 71 per cent DA as given to central government employees while they were given 59 per cent.

In other north eastern states also the government employees were not enjoying the facilities rendered to central government employees, he added. If the state government concedes to the demand of the employees an additional Rs 6.90 crores will be incurred every month, he said. He also assured to rectify pay anomaly as demanded by the employees.

The strike has affected the functioning of government offices.

The Senapati district employees have also threatened to block the National Highway 39.
