DPA urges centre to help restore peace in Lanka
Chennai, Jun 19 (UNI) The ruling DMK-led DPA today urged the Centre to take necessary steps to restore peace in Sri Lanka in the wake of the present disturbed situation.
A meeting chaired by DMK President and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi adopted a resolution to this effect.
It said at a time when there were expectations that peace would return in the island nation following the initiatives taken by Norway, the Lankan government and the LTTE were on a warpath, the resolution said.
It also urged the Centre to take all necessary steps to prevent attacks on Indian fishermen by the Lankan Navy personnel.
The resolution was signed, among others, by Mr D Sudarsanam (Congress), Dr S Ramadoss (PMK), K Veeramani (Dravidar Kazhagam), T K Rengarajan (CPI-M), D Pandian (CPI) and J M Khader Moideen (IUML).
