Death toll due to lightning reaches 29 on third day in M'wada

Aurangabad, Maharashtra, June 19 (UNI) The death toll due to lightning reached to 29 today in Marathwada, with 12 more deaths reported on the third day today, as heavy rains accompanied by thundershowers continued to lash the region.

About five people were killed when lightning struck them in various places of Aurangabad district this evening, official sources said.

According to an official source at the district collectorate here, the victims were identified as Tulshiram Matu Shinde (30), Aabasaheb Kanade (25) (Both from Vaijapur) Chandrakant Hazare (30) and Jijabai Jadhav (40), both residents of Dadegaon village in Paithan tehsil and Kailas Ghuge (30- Satara-Aurangabad).

According to police sources at Jalna control room, two people --Rajabhau Kachru Savel (18) and Maruti Vikas Khandangle (20) were killed in lighting strike.

There has been one more death reported due to lightning from Jalna, the sources said.

Meawnehile, a UNI report from Beed said that at least four people were killed at two places in Kaij district due to lightning late this afternoon.

An official source at Beed said, three people were killed at Bankaranja while one died at Kalab-Amba village in Keij tehsil.

''Tehsil authorities have rushed to these places for panchanama and necessary formalities in assessing the natuarl calamity,'' they said.

The reports reaching here said several head of cattle were also killed due to the lightning in various parts of Marathwada.

Meanwhile, sowing operations have picked up in the Marathwada region after the arrival of monsoon in almost of all the eight districts, the sources said.
